Glacier Park, Montana (Day One)

Day One is always abrupt when you have to wake up at 4AM to climb on an airplane for a 6:15 flight. We arrived in Seattle, and went to the desk to get our boarding passes. Come to find out that they overbooked the flight and Lea doesn’t have a seat for the flight. This was not a good start to the trip. Read More…

White-Water Rafting (Day Two)

Day Two was pretty much planned out since we had signed up for a full day white-water rafting trip with the Montana Raft company. The problem was the company was a few miles out of the park and there aren’t any shuttles that go that direction. We’d heard from multiple people that it was pretty common to hitch a ride throughout the park, so we gave it a try. Read More…

Avalanche Lake (Day Three)

Since we didn’t know who the mystery guests were that showed up in the rain, we were surprised to see three tents set up all around us in the morning. Turns out the bikers were “touring” from Oakland. Basically they had been riding their bikes for a month, and two of them had another month to go. They had been all the way up to Washington, BC, through Banff National Park and other parts of Canada. Read More…

Highline Trail and Granite Park Chalet (Day Four)

We did our best to get an early start and get outta the campsite since we had a 7.6 mile hike ahead of us on the Highline Trail from Logan Pass to the Granite Park Chalet. We were also a two hour shuttle ride away from the trail head. After not being able to get on the first shuttle as it was full. We settled for the second one. Read More…

Swiftcurrent Lookout (Day Five)

We stayed in bed til 9am for some much needed rest that wasn’t so easy to get due to the snoring in other rooms. For breakfast we upgraded to Bagels and Cream Cheese for some extra energy. Taking a hike was inevitable, but we didn’t want it to be to long since we did the 8 miles the day before and had 9 coming up the next day. Read More…

Swiftcurrent Pass (Day Six)

Since we had 9 miles to hike with backpacks we decided we should leave early. Check out time at the Chalet was 9:30 anyway. I think we made it out by 9:15. This hike was a 2400 ft descent to our hotel “Many Glacier” where we would spend the remaining days of our trip. It was a warm 9 mile hike with a much needed breeze. Read More…

Apikuni Falls (Day Seven)

Buffet breakfast! I could have cooked something better myself, but none-the-less it was good compared to eating bagels again. After fueling up we headed to Apikuni Falls since we just wanted to do a short hike that day (4.2 miles round trip). Read More…

Iceberg Lake (Day Eight)

Buffet breakfast, yes again (our only option)! A big hike in store to Iceberg Lake (12.4 miles). We thought we should get an early start since the hike would take much of the day. We started out across the swiftcurrent trail around 9:15. After a slight detour getting to the trailhead we were on our way to Iceberg Lake along with many other hikers. Read More…

Shuttle and Epilogue

At 7am we were on the first of five shuttles back to the airport. The reason being we had made our way over the course of the trip all the way to the east side of the park. We now had to get back to the west side and head to the airport. Read More…
