Shuttle and Epilogue
At 7am we were on the first of five shuttles back to the airport. The reason being we had made our way over the course of the trip all the way to the east side of the park. We now had to get back to the west side and head to the airport. We did have some time to kill so we stopped at Logan Pass to take a look at the Big Horn Sheep and Mountain goats. It was still early so there weren’t to many people there yet and it was very peaceful.
We made it back to our original spot at Lake McDonald where we sat by the lake by about noon. We had a few hours to kill before the aiport shuttle picked us up. Bob arrived promptly to pick us up and was ironically from the Bay Area. He moved to Montana in 1993 and said he felt like that was where he wanted to be and stay for a long while. Apparently a large amount of people in the town of Whitefish (a small ski town) had moved there from the Bay Area.
Overall Glacier Park is simple amazing. The views are spectacular and the people are extremely friendly. It was very reassuring as we told people from there about our plans and where we were headed. They exclaimed “Wow, you guys are really doing it right!” Over the course of the trip from West Glacier to the East of Many Glacier we camped, backpacked, hiked, rafted and kayaked. We hiked a total of 45 miles (17 mi with backpacks) and made it all around the park using the free shuttle system. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to be mesmerized by nature. Our bear sightings were limited seeing one briefly from the shuttle and some in the distance through a telescope (mom and cub). Despite the minimal bear sightings the wildlife in the park is quite beautiful.
