Swiftcurrent Pass (Day Six)
Since we had 9 miles to hike with backpacks we decided we should leave early. Check out time at the Chalet was 9:30 anyway. I think we made it out by 9:15. This hike was a 2400 ft descent to our hotel “Many Glacier” where we would spend the remaining days of our trip. It was a warm 9 mile hike with a much needed breeze. Really pretty with waterfalls and glaciers on our decent to the lakes below. We were happy we were going down and not up like the boyscout troop we passed… It would have been a grueling 9 miles “up”!
My ankle was starting to get really sore with the backpack and the clearing to the campground was a great site 7.6 miles in. The rest was a flat hike to Many Glacier. Dead tired we checked into our room and immediately took the first shower of the trip. Next stop the first bar we’d been to as well. We found some great seating overlooking the lake and beautiful view. Planted there for 3 or 4 hours we ordered food and tasted a number of Montana suds.
After much needed energy, we checked out the hotel and stumbled upon a nature talk about endangered animals of the park (”Life on the Edge”). We got some good info about moose, bears, bald eagles and other wildlife. Crashing was inevitable after the long day…
